After takeoff, the TUI flight suddenly diverts and returns to Manchester

The plane suddenly circled back over the Irish Sea before returning to Manchester

A TUI flight was suddenly diverted and returned to Manchester Airport shortly after take off because its crew had worked too many hours.

The BY166 flight from Manchester to Goa in India departed at 12.55am this morning (Saturday). It landed back at the airport shortly after 2.10am, just over an hour later.

Flight tracking data showed the plane setting off and heading west, towards the Irish Sea, before circling back and returning to Manchester.

A spokesperson for TUI said the reason for the flight being diverted was that its crew had "exceeded operational hours".

The flight eventually departed shortly before 6pm this evening.
